For a minute or perhaps two - and this is a long time - the theater makes man better and happier on this earth. - Jean Jacques Gautier

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

In October 2006, RCT began its' second season with a Drama Camp in which two students learned about acting by producing a scene from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The course took place over an eight week period. Each lesson taught the students about a different area of stage production.

The camp ended on the same date as the Clever Dick productions, so the students performed their short production as an opener each night.

Clever Dick

The end of the camp coincided with RCT's second production, the English farce Clever Dick, written by Charles Marowitz.

The action in Clever Dick begins at a stately home in rural England, where Colonel Calvarley, the lord of the manor, suddenly expires after sipping a glass of (apparently poisoned) Sauterne. His body is discovered by Hannah, the housekeeper, and Harold, the houseboy, which leads to the arrival of Inspector Farcus of Scotland Yard and his assistant, Potts, two working-class types who have little sympathy for the decadent life styles of the landed gentry.

These events were followed by an Old English Feast in early December and by a Saskatchewan Showcase featuring the Saskatoon choral group AYUVE in late January. Every production was met with enthusiastic response.

Me and My Girl

In March 2007, RCT began its' largest and most ambitious production; the musical Me and My Girl, written by L. Arthur Rose and Douglas Furber. Producing a full length musical brought new challenges to the theatre group. The stage for Me and My Girl had to accommodate six scenes and still have room for 21 local and district performers to sing, dance and act. The theatre club therefore went to the Town of Rosetown and to the Rosetown Dance Club and proposed a major stage expansion.

All parties agreed to the expansion, and so RCT erected a temporary apron provided by the Town of Rosetown. RCT also purchased and installed a permanent lighting grid above both the original stage and the temporary apron to accommodate the lights for bothe Me and My Girl and all future RCT productions.

The expansion gave RCT the space they needed for the large cast, and the production of Me and My Girl was met with very enthusiastic reviews. At the close of the production, RCT removed the temporary apron but set in place a plan to begin raising money for a permanent stage renovation.
